Joseph M.
In November 2021, Joseph was laid off from Boeing Aerospace Company after three years of employment. His role as an NC Tape Laminator Operator was not in demand in Washington State. His job search was initially unsuccessful, but a Layoff Assistance orientation through WorkSource Pierce introduced him to the Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program.
Joseph decided to pivot his career by enrolling in Aerospace Machining/Fabrication training at the Pierce County Skill Center. Later, he pursued an Associate of Applied Science in Aviation Technology at Green River Community College. With support from his TAA Case Manager and the Tacoma Pierce TAA team, Joseph graduated with the highest honors.
He then applied for an Air Traffic Control (ATC) position, underwent extensive assessments, and was placed on the Pool 1 waiting list!
Joseph’s initial trainee salary will be $35,947 plus a $40 per diem. After training, it will increase to around $57,000, with the potential to reach up to $209,443 as he gains certifications.
Joseph credits the TAA program with helping him achieve his career goals, saying, “This program has helped me reach my lifetime goals.”
