Construction Laborer

Internship Wage: $16.28 – $22/hour

Intern Can Work Up To: 25 hours per week

Minimum Internship Length: 160 hours

Maximum Internship Length: 320 hours

Location:  Tacoma, WA 98409

Position Description:
Construction Laborer Intern is ideal for those passionate about building a career in the construction industry. As a Construction Laborer Intern, you will be immersed in various aspects of construction work, gaining hands-on experience and knowledge in a real-world setting. Your journey will encompass a wide range of construction activities, from site preparation to the detailed execution of construction tasks. You will assist in tasks such as clearing and preparing construction sites, operating and maintaining a variety of construction tools and machinery, and learning the fundamentals of building and demolition processes. This internship is not just about learning the trade; it’s about becoming a vital part of a team that values hard work, safety, and the creation of quality infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks under various weather conditions. This includes lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of hand and power tools and equipment.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new techniques and practices.
  • Must be open to receiving feedback and instructions from senior staff.

Skills You May Learn:

  • Understanding and assisting in site/project preparation and maintenance, including clearing, grading, and compaction.
  • Transportation, dismantling, and stockpiling of scaffolding and work platforms.
  • Gaining proficiency in using hand, electric, gas, pneumatic, and power tools and equipment.
  • Learning about and applying safety protocols in various settings, including confined spaces and during hazardous material handling.
  • Assisting in the installation and maintenance of erosion control systems.
  • Participating in environmental remediation tasks, including asbestos and hazardous waste abatement.
  • Gaining exposure to building construction practices, such as concrete mixing, scaffolding erection, and material handling.
  • Understanding tunneling safety and construction, including tunnel support installation and concrete placement.
  • Assisting in pipeline-related tasks, including trenching, excavation, and preparation.

Landscape Technician

Internship Wage: $16.28 – $22/hour

As a Landscape Technician Intern, you will embark on a hands-on learning journey in the field of professional landscaping. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about transforming outdoor spaces and have a keen interest in horticulture and landscape design. You will work closely with our experienced team of landscape professionals, gaining practical skills and insights into the intricacies of landscape maintenance and design. Your responsibilities will include assisting in a variety of tasks ranging from the analysis of landscape blueprints to the physical creation and maintenance of beautiful and functional outdoor spaces.

Requirements:

  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks under various weather conditions. This includes lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of landscape maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new techniques and practices in landscaping. Must be open to receiving feedback and instructions from senior staff.

Skills You May Learn:

  • Analyzing and interpreting landscape blueprints to understand design concepts.
  • Adjusting design issues and effectively laying out plants for optimal balance and maintenance.
  • Constructing or maintaining lawns, yards, gardens, and other landscape surfaces to enhance aesthetic appeal and functionality.
  • Expertly mixing and spreading mulches, ground covers, soil amendments, decorative bark, or rock to enrich landscape quality.
  • Executing seeding, sodding, or hydroseeding techniques for effective lawn/garden care.
  • Planting trees, shrubs, and plants, contributing to biodiversity and visual interest.
  • Installing, servicing, or repairing both above ground and underground lawn or landscape sprinkler systems.
  • Assembling or placing pre-manufactured elements like trellises, play equipment, benches, or picnic tables.
  • Constructing rock walls (up to a maximum height of four feet) and undertaking land clearing/grubbing tasks to a maximum depth of six inches below the finished grade.
  • Spreading topsoil to a maximum depth of six inches below the finished grade and executing precise trenching up to three feet below finish grade.
  • Installing French drains and other subsurface water collection systems to a maximum depth of three feet below finish grade.
