Start your pathway to a new healthcare Career!

This free two-phase employment program trains entry-level job seekers to start a career in the healthcare sector. A Nursing Assistant Certification (NA-C or CNA) is a prerequisite for a large array of healthcare positions.

Phase 1: The Basics of Healthcare, 3 weeks, starts February 22, 2022
Phase 2: Next Steps to Certification, 4 weeks, starts April 4, 2022
Testing: Pass the WA State Exam and register as a Certified CNA

Classes are taught online with in-person labs, giving you the flexibility to learn from wherever you have internet access and also participate in hands-on learning activities.

  • Daily online classes spanning 4-6 hours will be held Monday through Friday, each week.
  • 4-hour in-person labs will be held on weekends
  • 40 hours of clinical work experience

Eligibility requirements

In order to qualify for the Introduction to Healthcare Apprenticeship Program (IHAP), you must meet both state and program eligibility requirements:

State Requirements

  • Ages 18 years or older
  • Pass a background check
  • Full vaccination*, including COVID-19 and current TB test

Program Requirements

  • City of Tacoma resident
  • Able to work in the U.S. without a sponsor
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Low income
  • Proficient in English (ESL Level 5)
  • Basic computer skills
